. I hold a degree in Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1980) and a PhD in Biology from the Universitat de València (Extraordinary Doctorate Award) in 1984. I obtained the position of Associate Professor in 1986 and later held the post of University Professor at the Universitat de València. I have been teaching and researching uninterruptedly at University since 1980. I have been the Director of the Departament de Microbiologia i Ecologia at the Universitat de València, and I am a member of the ENOLAB research group GIUV2014-197 and the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine BioTecMed of the University of Valencia (UV). Co-author of 186 scientific papers and 270 congress communications. Regular editor/reviewer of many scientific and technical journals related to Microbiology and Oenology. Supervisor of 14 doctoral theses, 2 of them with Extraordinary Doctorate Awards, and supervisor of many graduate/postgraduate students. I have participated in 50 R+D+i projects financed in competitive calls of Administrations or public and private entities (in 17 of them as Principal Investigator), and in 27 Contracts, agreements or R&D+i projects not competitive with Administrations or public or private entities (in 21 of them as Principal Investigator). I am a member of CYTED, founder member and present President of Gienol (Asociación de Grupos de Investigación Enológica, the leading research institution in the wine research worldthrough), founder and President of Microcluster de Vitivinicultura (VLC/CAMPUS), founder and participant in the Plataforma Tecnológica del Vino (PTV), RedBal (Red Española de Bacterias Lácticas), and Red Sicura (Red Española de Seguridad Alimentaria). I hold many contacts with other research groups and private companies worldthrough (from Korea to Argentina, New Zealand or Canada), several of them having researched and published jointly. I have participated in the evaluation of many research projects (mainly through ANEP), and editor and reviewer of high-level several scientific journals. I hold a maximum of 6 teaching five-year terms, and 7 six-year research periods (6 research and 1 transfer period). I have been always committed to teaching and research, but also to transferring knowledge to the productive ecological sector and general audience. Some of our microbial strains or know-how have been transferred to private companies, such as Agrovin, Lallemand or Enartis. I have extensive experience in the development of molecular techniques for the identification and characterization of microorganisms. I have expanded the taxonomic knowledge by describing 6 new bacterial species, having pioneered the study of the bacterial genome and the development of tools to introduce genetic information into O. oeni. I have pioneered also the use of LAB to achieve acidification (bioacidification) of low-acid grape musts caused by climate change. My main line of research is Enological Microbiology, focusing on the study of wine microorganisms in order to improve fermentation processes, avoid unwanted biological processes and control wine quality. Also committed to the study of taxonomic, genetic, metabolic, technological and ecological aspects of lactic acid bacteria (LAB).
