Rosa Herráez Hernández (RHH) has pursued her professional career in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Valencia continuously since 1988, initially as a research fellow and subsequently as Assistant Lecturer, Associate Professor, and, since April 2012, as Full Professor. In 1994, she completed a 12-month research stay at the Vrije Universiteit van Amsterdam (The Netherlands) under a postdoctoral fellowship.
Teaching activity. Since 1991, RHH has taught various courses in the field of Analytical Chemistry in the Faculties of Chemistry, Biology, and Pharmacy, as well as in the Higher Technical School of Engineering, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Furthermore, she has been actively involved in teaching management tasks and in several educational research projects.
Research activity. RHH’s research has encompassed different areas of Analytical Chemistry, primarily related to chromatography, spectroscopy, enantiomeric analysis, chemometrics, miniaturization, and sensor development, with diverse applications in environmental, clinical, and industrial fields. Since its inception in 1988, she has been a member of the MINTOTA research group (http://mintota.com/), recognized as a group of excellence by the Government of Comunitat Valenciana region (Spain) in 2012. The group has established collaborations with other teams at the University of Valencia and with researchers of Spanish, European, and American institutions. The group hosts students and researchers for pre- and post-doctoral stays, and engages in technology transfer activities with companies, public administrations, and technology centres, as well as scientific outreach.
Since 1990, RHH has participated in numerous research projects funded through competitive regional, national, and European calls, serving as Principal Investigator in two of them. Regarding her training capacity in research, she has supervised six doctoral theses, and more than one hundred undergraduate/graduate projects. Since 2005, she has been involved in various technology transfer activities, notably research projects with the regional authorities aimed at studying pollutants in water, sediments and biota along the Comunitat Valenciana coastline. She has also participated in different contracts with companies and entities related to the environment and the chemical sector.
As a result of her research work, she has published 114 articles in indexed journals in the category Analytical Chemistry, with an h-index of 29 by ISI-WoK. Additionally, she has authored three encyclopaedia chapters and ten book chapters in international editorials. She has presented more than 100 contributions at national and international conferences, and holds three registered patents.
Since 2002, RHH has regularly been invited to review articles for high-impact journals of the analytical chemistry category such as Analytical Chemistry, Talanta, Analytical Chimica Acta, Journal of Chromatography A, and others, and she was awarded as 2019 outstanding reviewer by Separations journal. In addition to belonging to various scientific societies, she serves on the editorial board of the open access journal Molecules. RHH participates regularly in evaluation tasks for regional research management institutions such as the Agència de Gestió d’Ajuts Universitaris i de Recerca of Cataluña, the Agència de Quatitat Universitària de les Illes Balears, and others. She has been awarded five six-year research periods by the Spanish CNEAI, covering the period from January 1, 1990, to December 31, 2019.
