José Antonio Calañas Continente holds a Bachelor's degree in Anglogermanic Philology from the University of Valencia (1988) and a Ph.D. in Philology from the University of Córdoba (1997). He has been a teacher of German at the secondary school level and at public language schools. In January 1999, he took office as an Associate Professor of German Philology at the University of Córdoba, and in 2003, he obtained a new tenure-track position in the Department of English and German Studies at the University of Valencia.

In university administration, he was Vice Dean for Institutional Relations and Student Affairs at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the University of Córdoba and, at the University of Valencia, he was Head of the Department of English and German Philology. (2006-2012 and 2018-2024) and is currently the Dean of the School of Philology, Translation and Communication.
