Born in Castellón, Spain, on November 9, 1966. PhD in Physics from the University of Valencia (UV) in 1994 (supervised by Prof. J.M. Ibáñez). After postdoctoral appointments at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Potsdam) and the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (Garching), I joined the University of Valencia, where I was Associate Professor from 2003 to 2018 and where I am currently Full Professor since 2018. I served as Head of the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (2015–2018) and have been UV group leader in the Virgo Collaboration since 2016, currently serving as Chair of the Virgo Editorial Board. I lead the Gravitational Wave and Numerical Relativity research group at UV.
My research focuses on Relativistic Astrophysics, Numerical Relativity, and Gravitational-Wave Astronomy. My work has received wide international recognition. Results from my research are implemented in numerical-relativity codes based on high-resolution shock-capturing schemes and are used by most numerical relativity groups worldwide. The relativistic hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics formulation developed by our group (known as the Valencia formulation) has become a standard in the field of numerical relativity. I have published around 300 peer-reviewed articles and given over 80 international conference talks. My H-index is 94 (NASA ADS, as of January 2026).
I have led and participated in numerous national and European research projects, contributed to widely used numerical-relativity codes (GR3D, CoCoA/CoCoNuT, Nada, CACTUS/WHISKY, Einstein Toolkit), supervised or co-supervised 11 PhD theses, and regularly serve as reviewer for major funding agencies and leading journals. I am active in scientific outreach and have chaired major international conferences, including the 2019 GR22–Amaldi 13 conference in Valencia.
