Biography

José Ramón Torres Lapasió obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Valencia, where he was awarded the Doctorate Award in 1996. He subsequently undertook post-doctoral research at several national and international institutions. He held a faculty position at the University of Navarra and later joined the University of Valencia, where he has been a member of the Department of Analytical Chemistry since 2000. His teaching activity covers undergraduate, graduate and Master’s level courses in the Faculties of Chemistry and Pharmacy.

He was awarded a research contract within the first call of the Ramón y Cajal Programme (2001–2006), obtaining final I3 certification. In 2006, he secured a permanent position as Profesor Contratado Doctor and, following success in the National Habilitation examination, was appointed Profesor Titular de Universidad at the University of Valencia in 2007. He has supervised ten PhD theses, one of which received both an Extraordinary Doctorate Award and an international distinction in Chemometrics.

His research is focused on Chemometrics applied to chromatography, particularly on modelling, optimisation and signal processing for the analysis of complex samples. He is a founding member of the FUSCHROM research group at the University of Valencia and actively develops scientific software to support his research. His academic activity has been recognised with four consecutive six-year research periods (up to 2020) and four five-year teaching periods (up to 2021).

He has authored 131 peer-reviewed scientific articles, mainly published in first-quartile journals of the Journal Citation Reports in Analytical Chemistry, with approximately half in the first decile. His publications include articles in leading journals such as Analytical Chemistry, Journal of Chromatography A and Analytica Chimica Acta. He has also contributed 13 chapters to internationally published books and authored 8 review or tutorial articles, several by invitation. He regularly serves as a reviewer for high-impact scientific journals and has received “Top Reviewer” distinctions.

He has presented 187 scientific contributions at national and international conferences, including oral presentations and posters, and has received several awards and finalist distinctions. His research activity includes participation in multiple national and regional competitive projects, acting as principal investigator in several of them. He is currently the principal investigator of a consolidated research group project funded by the Generalitat Valenciana (2024).
