Biography

Lucas Serrano Pastor holds a PhD in Psychology from the Department of Basic Psychology at the Universitat de València, Spain. His doctoral thesis received the distinction of Cum Laude with International Mention. He has also been awarded an Extraordinary Degree Prize and holds two Master’s degrees, in the Prevention and Treatment of Addictive Behaviours and in Research in Cognition and Human Evolution, as well as a specialisation in Clinical Intervention in Addictions.

He has combined research with clinical practice, having worked as a therapist at the Hedra Day Centre of Fundación ADSIS. He has completed two research stays at Ghent University, Belgium, and the Catholic University of Portugal in Braga, Portugal, where he received training in recovery-oriented approaches.

His doctoral thesis, entitled Addiction Recovery in Spain: An Ecosystemic Analysis of Recovery Journeys, Recovery Capital, and Personal Recovery Priorities, adapted the Life in Recovery survey to explore recovery processes in Spain, developed a new instrument to examine the aspects considered most important by people in recovery themselves, and evaluated recovery capital and recovery priorities from an ecosystemic perspective. His findings have implications for the implementation of recovery-oriented approaches in Spain, as well as for the improvement of service design and interventions. He is currently exploring profiles of people in recovery and key aspects of their recovery processes.

To date, he has authored 8 publications, 1 book chapter, and 32 conference contributions. He has actively collaborated with addiction treatment organisations, delivered lectures on recovery, and is currently participating in a European project exploring recovery trajectories and recovery capital.

He has taught the module Prevention and Treatment of Crime on the Degree in Criminology and the Double Degree in Law and Criminology at the University of Valencia. He is a member of the MOTIVEM teaching team, has participated in two Educational Innovation projects on suicide prevention and the development of socio-emotional competences, and has developed teaching materials on intervention in Depressive Disorders.
