María Hernández Guerrero holds a degree and a specialized qualification in Social Work, as well as a Master’s degree in Equality and Gender in the Public and Private Spheres from Universitat Jaume I and Miguel Hernández University. She is a career civil servant within the Valencian Government (Generalitat Valenciana), serving in the Technical Corps for Social Action (Social and Socio-health Services Administration, Social Work scale) and the Senior Corps for Social Action.

Her professional career has focused primarily on social services, gender equality, and providing care to women who are victims of gender-based violence. Within the regional administration, she has managed and coordinated specialized resources for preventing gender-based violence and worked with the Valencian Community’s network of Women's Centers; her role involved developing action protocols, coordinating between different administrative bodies, and monitoring specialized care resources.

Previously, she spent over a decade working in primary social services across various municipalities in the Valencia metropolitan area—experience that gave her firsthand insight into social intervention at the local and community levels.

She currently works in the Service for the Promotion of Women and Gender Equality—part of the Directorate General for Equality and the Women's Institute of the Valencian Government—where she participates in designing, developing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies on gender equality, as well as promoting initiatives to advance effective equality between women and men.

She combines her professional role with university teaching at the Faculty of Social Sciences and by conducting training sessions for public administration staff on topics such as equal opportunities for women and men, the prevention of gender-based and sexual violence, and work-life balance and shared responsibility.

Her work has centered on promoting gender equality, improving the institutional response to various forms of inequality, and strengthening public policies aimed at guaranteeing women's rights.
