Maria Hurtado Benetó holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law and Criminology (2022) and a Master's Degree in Law and Gender-Based Violence (2024) from the Universitat de València, as well as a Master's Degree in Legal Practice and Representation (2025) from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Currently, she is a PhD candidate in the Human Rights, Democracy and International Justice Programme at the Human Rights Institute of the UV, where she is developing her thesis "Circumstantial evidence in hate crime proceedings," funded by an FPU predoctoral contract from the Ministry of Universities. This academic and research trajectory has been recognized with the Extraordinary Master's Award in Law and Gender-Based Violence (2024) and the Olga Quiñones Award (2024) from the Equality Unit of the UV.

Her main lines of research encompass hate crimes and the far-right, pharmaceutical law, and linguistic rights. She has participated in the Ministry of Science and Innovation Project, directed by Dr. Ana Montesinos García, "Keys for a digital and algorithmic justice with a gender perspective" (PID2021-123170OB-I00), as well as in various teaching innovation and knowledge transfer projects.

She has completed funded research stays at institutions such as the European University Institute in Florence (2023), the European Parliament in Brussels (2023), and the University of Glasgow (2026).
