María López Rubio holds a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the Universitat Jaume I (Castelló, 2017) and a Master's degree in Medical Translation from the same university (2018).
During her BA studies, she received a collaboration grant in the audiovisual translation research group TRAMA, led by Professor Frederic Chaume Varela. She was awarded the final-year prize (2017) by Universitat Jaume I, the extraordinary Capitanía General de València prize (2017) for the best academic records, and the Ernest Breva prize (2013-2017) for her academic career. Additionally, she received the First Prize in the Arts and Humanities category in the National End-of-Degree Awards for University Education, awarded by the Ministry of Universities to the best records of the 2016-2017 academic year.
She has worked in audiovisual accessibility services at the Valencian regional television channel À Punt Mèdia, where she carried out subtitling tasks for people with hearing disabilities and audio description for people with visual disabilities. Thanks to two pre-doctoral contracts (Atracció del Talent from the Universitat de València and a FPU contract from the Spanish Ministry of Universities), she worked as a researcher and teaching fellow in the Department of English and German Philology at the Universitat de València, where she was also a member of the CiTrans research group.
She holds a PhD in Languages, Literatures, Cultures, and their Applications from the Universitat de València with international mention and cum laude qualification. Her dissertation, supervised by Professors Beatriz Cerezo Merchán and Juan José Martínez Sierra, explores the challenges of audio description in the humorous genre.
She has presented her work at conferences such as Media for All 9, SELM, IALIC (International Association for Languages & Intercultural Communication), and the PluriTAV International Conference. Since January 2024, she has been the director and editor of the Estudis Filològics i de Traducció journal, a publication of the Universitat de València which provides a space for scientific dissemination for novice researchers.
She has collaborated on numerous occasions with the Texte Image Langage lab at the Université de Bourgogne Europe (Dijon, France), where she has carried out several research stays.
She currently combines her professional work in the private sector with her teaching and research activities at Universitat de València and Universitat Jaume I.
