José Marqués-Hueso joined the University of Valencia in September 2023 as Distinguished Researcher, recipient of one of the 40 Beatriz-Galindo Senior Awards from the National program to attract research talent. His primary field of research is the functional and optical materials (bulk, nanomaterials, semiconductors and lanthanides), their interaction with light and their translation in advanced applications such as manufacturing and electronics. After finishing his PhD on integrated photonics manufacturing at the University of Valencia (2011), he joined Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., as a Research Associate to apply photon-managing technologies on materials for solar cells. In 2015, he commenced a position as a Research Fellow on laser processing. In 2017 he became Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor, and Deputy Head of the Department, in 2021, until August 2023, when he moved to join the UVEG. Currently he is Honorary Associate Professor by Heriot-Watt University, and a member of the UMDO+ research group.
In the last 20 years he has participated in about 20 research projects, and several knowledge transfers. He has obtained an extended network of collaborators, with more than 120 co-authors from institutions from the 5 continents, and a robust publications record (more than 80 referred publications and 2 patents, with >2,500 citations and H=29), including top journals such as Nature Photonics, Advanced Functional Materials, Nature Communications, Nanoscale, etc. Some of these works have been featured at the covers (Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Optical Materials, Advanced Materials Technology…).
