Dr. Miguel Ángel García Pérez is Full Professor of Genetics at the University of Valencia and a researcher affiliated with the INCLIVA Health Research Institute, where he coordinates the Osteoporosis Genetics Research Group. He is also a member of the Healthy Aging in Women (CARMEN) research group at the University of Valencia.

His research focuses on understanding the genetic and molecular basis of osteoporosis and other complex diseases. Throughout his career, he has integrated tools from human genetics, transcriptomics, molecular biology, and immunology to investigate the mechanisms underlying disease susceptibility, bone loss, and fracture risk. His work has contributed to the identification of genetic variants, microRNAs, and biomarkers associated with osteoporosis, with the aim of improving fracture risk prediction and promoting the development of new diagnostic strategies. His research combines basic, translational, and clinical approaches to facilitate the transfer of scientific knowledge into clinical practice.

He obtained his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Valencia, graduating with the highest distinction (Summa Cum Laude, unanimously awarded). Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institut de Génétique et de Biologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire (Strasbourg, France), he completed his specialization in Immunology through a residency program at the University Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid. Since 2002, he has carried out his teaching and research activities at the University of Valencia, where he was appointed Associate Professor in 2011 and Full Professor of Genetics in 2022.

He has participated in more than twenty competitive research projects, several of them as principal investigator, and is the author of over one hundred scientific publications, including 94 papers in international journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports, 14 book chapters, and nearly 100 contributions to national and international scientific conferences. He has been awarded five recognized six-year research evaluation periods (sexenios de investigación), and his scientific output has received more than 2,000 citations, with an h-index of 27.

In teaching, he is primarily responsible for Human Genetics courses in the Biology and Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences degree programs, as well as Genetic Pathology in the Master's Degree in Research in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Genetics. He also contributes to other undergraduate and postgraduate courses and has supervised bachelor's theses, master's dissertations, and doctoral theses.

He is actively involved in scientific evaluation as a reviewer for international biomedical journals and as a project evaluator for the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), ACSUCYL, and the Regional Ministry of Health of the Andalusian Government. He maintains collaborations with research groups working in the fields of genetics and bone metabolism.
