Patricia Motos Sellés obtained her degree (2007) and PhD (2013) in Psychology from the University of Valencia. She is currently a Tenure-Track Lecturer in the Department of Basic Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy, University of Valencia. She is a member of the research group Psychosocial Aspects of the Addictive Process (APPrAd).
Her research focuses on gaining a deeper understanding of addictive processes, with particular emphasis on binge drinking patterns, improving their assessment and detection, and proposing evidence-based strategies for prevention and intervention. Within this field, she has participated in several national research projects, including “Development and validation of an instrument to assess binge drinking among young people”, “Design of a psychosocial intervention to address binge drinking in young people”, and “Assessment of brain damage associated with intensive alcohol consumption (binge drinking) in young people: Behavioral, neuropsychological, and psychophysiological evaluation”. Her contributions have encompassed diverse tasks such as data collection and entry, project management, interviewing, report writing, and the dissemination of scientific findings.
She has published several articles in high-impact international journals (JCR) and has presented her work at leading national and international conferences. She is currently involved in the project “Determinants underlying intensive alcohol use or binge drinking (BD) in young adults”, which aims to identify specific predictor profiles of different alcohol consumer groups, thereby enabling more precise tailoring of preventive interventions.
In parallel, she has recently initiated a new line of research on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), which addresses two main areas: first, evaluating the level of training among future professionals regarding the effects of alcohol consumption during pregnancy on the child; and second, assessing public knowledge about this issue. These findings will support the future design of social awareness initiatives grounded in empirical evidence.
