Biography

I am a tenured associate professor at the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department, in the Faculty of Physics of the University of València. My research is focused on astrophysical scenarios related to relativistic hydrodynamics. These include extragalactic jets from active galactic nuclei, and outflows in both X-ray binary stars and gamma-ray binary stars. Specifically, I use relativistic magneto-hydrodynamics (RMHD) numerical codes to study extragalactic jet evolution and propagation and morphology, the influence of jets on the evolution of the host active galaxy, parsec-scale jet physics (emission processes, flow dynamics), microquasar jets, and pulsar wind-stellar wind interaction in gamma-ray binaries. I also participate in observational campaigns using radio interferometry techniques (Very Long Baseline Interferometry, VLBI) in collaboration with radioastronomers from different institutions to complement and test my theoretical studies.

So far, I have authored more than 80 papers published in refereed journals, most of them in journals within the first 25% of the field, according to Web of Science. My h-citation factor is now 33, according to the ADS database, and my works have collected more than 2500 citations so far. I regularly referee papers for the different most relevant journals in Astrophysics. I have given more than thirty talks in international scientific meetings, plus around twenty seminars in different universities. I have supervised three PhD thesis: Christian M. Fromm (advisors: Eduardo Ros, Manel Perucho), January 2013, University of Bonn (which obtained the Promotion Prize of the Astronomische Gesellschaft for the best PhD thesis of 2013), Laura Vega-García (advisors: Andrei Lobanov, Manel Perucho), October 2017, University of Cologne, and Jose López-Miralles (advisors: Manel Perucho, Simone Migliari, José María Martí).

I am PI of two research projects financed by the Spanish government and co-PI of another one financed by the Valencian government. I have participated in proposals and observations using VLBI networks such as the European VLBI Network and the Very Long Baseline Array. I have been PI of a Key Science Project of the space radiotelescope Radioastron and projects for the use of supercomputing facilities amounting millions of hours of allocated time. I have written outreach articles for the general press and coordinated two monographs (2009, 2016/17) about Astronomy and Astrophysics in the public science journal of the University of València, Mètode (www.metode.cat). I am currently the Director of the Language and Linguistic Policy division of the University of València.
