Biography

Alfonso Pitarque, born in Alcaniz (Teruel), graduate in Psychology (University of Valencia, 1984) and PhD in Experimental Psychology (University of Valencia, 1987). I currently work as Assistant Professor in the Department of Methodology at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Valencia, Spain.

My research career has always focused on experimentation in human memory and healthy and pathological aging (see publications). From 1986 to 2013 (during ten consecutive research projects) I was a full-time researcher of the research team led by Prof. Salvador Algarabel at the Experimental Psychology Lab of the University of Valencia. During the 2014-2016 and 2017-2019 trienniums I was the full-time main researcher of the research projects PSI2013-43533-R and PSI2016-77405-R funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. During the 2020-2022 and 2023-2025 trienniums I am a full-time researcher of two research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation directed by Prof. Dr. Juan Carlos Meléndez.

I have published more than 50 experimental papers about human memory and healthy or pathological aging in journals indexed in Web of Science (see publications), such as Neuropsychology (Q1), Neuropsychology (Q1), Psicothema (Q1), Aging, Neuropsychology and Cognition (Q2), Consciousness and Cognition (Q2), Cognition and Emotion (Q2), Scandinavian Journal of Psychology (Q2), Memory (Q2), European Journal of Cognitive Psychology (Q3), The Journal of General Psychology (Q3), etc.

From 1990 to 2017, I was the editorial coordinator, secretary and associate editor of the journal Psicologica (https://psicologicajournal.com) with an impact factor in the JCR-SSCI of Web of Science since 2007 (section: Psychology, Experimental). Currently, Psicologica is the official journal of the Spanish Society of Experimental Psychology (SEPEX: https://websepex.com).

From 2006 to 2010 I was the secretary of the Spanish Society of Experimental Psychology (SEPEX: https://websepex.com).

I have positively evaluated 6 teaching quinquennia (the last for the period 2016-2020) and 5 six-year terms of research by the Spanish Commission to Evaluate the Research Activity (the last for the period 2016-2021).

Outside of my job, I am passionate about mountain biking, travel, and literature.
