Biography

Alfonso Pitarque, born in Alcaniz (Teruel), graduate in Psychology from the University of Valencia (1984) and PhD in Psychology from the University of Valencia (1987). He currently works as Assistant Professor in the Department of Methodology at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Valencia.

My research career has always focused on experimentation in human memory and its relationship with healthy and pathological aging (see publications). From 1986 to 2013 I was a full-time research participant of the research team led by Prof. Dr. Salvador Algarabel in the Experimental Psychology laboratory of the University of Valencia. During the 2014-2016 triennium I was a full-time principal investigator of the research project "Experimental analysis of false recognition in normal and pathological aging" funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (project: PSI2013-43533- R). I am currently a full-time principal investigator of the research project "Deficits in familiarity and false recognition as markers of cognitive impairment: experimental and longitudinal analysis in healthy elderly, MCI and Alzheimer patients" funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (project: PSI2016-77405-R) for the period 2017-2019.

I have published 47 experimental articles in the field of human memory and healthy or pathological aging (see Publications) in journals with an impact factor in the Journal Citation Reports of Web of Science, such as Neuropsychology (Q1), Neuropsychology (Q1), Aging, Neuropsychology and Cognition (Q2), Consciousness and Cognition (Q2), Scandinavian Journal of Psychology (Q2), Memory (Q2), European Journal of Cognitive Psychology (Q3), The Journal of General Psychology (Q3), etc.

From 1990 to 2017, I was the editorial coordinator, secretary and associate editor of the journal Psicologica (https://www.uv.es/psicologica) with an impact factor in the JCR-SSCI of Web of Science since 2007 (section: Psychology, Experimental).

From 2006 to 2010 I was secretary of the Spanish Society of Experimental Psychology (SEPEX: https://websepex.com).

I have positively evaluated 6 teaching quinquennia (the last for the period 2011-2015) and 4 six-year terms of research by the Spanish Commission to Evaluate the Research Activity (the last for the period 2010-2015).

Outside of my job, I am passionate about mountain biking (see my web page: https://www.uv.es/pitarque/tracks/), travel (especially in Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey), cinema and literature.
