Historial Científico. Since my PhD in Biological Sciences, in 1985, my research career has been focused on the study of bacterial diversity in coastal aquatic environments and the marine environment, with two main focuses 1) Basic research, of a taxonomic nature, focused on the study of new taxa of marine bacteria and the exploration of intraspecific diversity (including the application of innovative methodologies and approaches, sequencing of essential genes and Multilocus Sequence Analysis -MLSA, genomic sequencing and associated genotaxonomic parameters -ANI, in silico DDH, AAI- as well as phylogenomic studies). The taxonomic groups in which my contribution has been most relevant are the Vibrionaceae family and especially Vibrio (with twelve described species), as well as Photobacterium, Grimontia and Enterovibrio. The following groups in order of importance have been the marine bacteria of the Rhodobacteraceae and Roseobacteraceae family, along with other Alphaproteobacteria, some members of Gammaproteobacteria (Marinomonas, Thalassomonas, ...) and the Bacteroidota phylum (Flavobacteriales). Up to date, I have described 17 new genera and 76 new species, as well as one new family, of marine bacteria. 2) Application of said knowledge to the diagnosis and evaluation of bacterial infectious diseases of fish farmed in marine aquaculture in the geographical environment, particularly sea bream and sea bass, species of high economic value, as well as dentex. We have also investigated the bacterial microbiota of various molluscs such as mussels, oysters and other bivalves, in a seasonal context, studies that provided many of the bacterial strains that have been later the basis for the description of new taxa. Since 2014 I am the head of the Research Group of the University of Valencia (GIUV2014-189) 'Microbial diversity and Taxogenomics of prokaryotes (TAXGEN-PRO)'. My research background has resulted in more than 90 original scientific publications, in scientific journals indexed in the 'Subject Category Listing' of the 'Journal Citation Reports (Science Citation Index)' and/or in Scopus Journal and Country Index, in addition to several book chapters, supervision of five doctoral theses and various research projects (theses, Master's Thesis), participation in twenty-one research projects subsidized through public funds at the regional, state and European level, four of which were have been made under my address as IP. All requested and possible research sections- sexenios- (1983 -2018) have been recognized: 6 six-year terms, effective January 2019. My h-indices in Web of Knowledge/Publons, Scopus, and Google Scholar are 29, 31, and 37, respectively (June, 2026).
