Biography

Josep E. Ribera i Condomina is a senior lecturer in Catalan Linguistics at the Inter-university Institute for Valencian Language (IIFV) and at the Department of Catalan Filology. He is the coordinator of the Degree in Catalan Philology and the coordinator of the Degree Academic Committee since 2015.

Doctor in Catalan Philology from the University of Valencia (2008) and Pompeu Fabra Prize in Grammar of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (2009), he has been linked to the Department of Catalan Philology as an associate lecturer since 2004.

His research, focused on referential cohesion, is in the framework of syntax, discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics and contrastive linguistics applied to language teaching and translation. In synchronic linguistics, he has dealt with text deixis, lexical cohesion and shell nouns in discourse genres such as fiction narrative or parliamentary debate. From a diachronic perspective, he has deepened in the analysis of the syntactic functions of clitic pronouns in ancient Catalan, within the project of elaboration of a Grammar of Catalan Catalan (in press).

He is a member of the Pragmatic Studies and Discourse Analysis Group (GrEPAD) and collaborator of Variation Studies Group . He has participated in several research projects funded by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Currently, He is part of the project Linguistic indetermination: structure, function and variation (Reference: PID2023-146903NB-I00).

He lectures in the Degree in Catalan Philology and the Degree in Interlinguistic Translation and Mediation, as well as in the Master's Degree in Research in Languages and Literatures. It credits two CNAI six-year research periods and two five-year lecturing periods.  

He is member of the International Association of Catalan Language and Literature (AILLC), of the Spanish Association of Cognitive Linguistics (AELCO/SCOLA), of the Spanish Association of Linguistics of Corpus Linguistics (AELINCO), of Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE) and of International Pragmatics (IPRA).
