Biography

Cristina Santaemilia holds a BA in English Studies (2021, Premio Extraordinario de Grado) from the Universitat de València, where they also completed the MA in Language and Literature Research (2022). Their research career began with a Research collaboration scholarship (Beca de colaboración) from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training (2020/21) and a Research collaboration grant (Ayuda para la colaboración en la investigación) from the Universitat de València (2021/22). In 2023, they received an Academic Excellence Award from the Generalitat Valenciana for their undergraduate studies. They are a member of the research group Literature, Arts and Performance (LAP, GIUV2017-254), led by Laura Monrós Gaspar. In addition, they are a member of the Asociación Española de Estudios Anglo-Norteamericanos (AEDEAN), the British Association for Victorian Studies (BAVS), and the Victorian Popular Fiction Association (VPFA). They currently teach at the Faculty of Philology, Translation and Communication.

Funded by a Predoctoral Fellowship from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (FPU22/00853) and supervised by Laura Monrós Gaspar and Claudia Alonso Recarte, their doctoral thesis examines the presence of the tableau vivant in neo-Victorian fiction. Their interdisciplinary research focuses on visual and material culture in historical fiction, particularly in neo-Victorian literature.
