Biography

José Santaemilia is Professor of English at the Universitat de València and a certified translator of English. His research interests focus on issues of gender, sexuality, discourse, and translation. He has edited books such as Género, lenguaje y traducción (Valencia, 2003), Gender, Sex and Translation: The Manipulation of Identities (Manchester, 2005), Gender and Sexual Identities in Transition: International Perspectives (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2008), with Patricia Bou, Woman and Translation: Geographies, Voices and Identities (MONTI – Monographs on Translation and Interpretation, 2011), with Luise von Flotow, and New Perspectives on Gender and Translation: New Voices for Transnational Dialogues (Routledge, 2022), with Eleonora Federici.

In 2017, he co-edited, with Sergio Maruenda, a special issue of the journal RESLA (Revista Española de Lingüística Aplicada) on Specialised Translation in Spain: Institutional Dimensions. He is also the author, along with José Pruñonosa, of the first critical edition in Spanish of Fanny Hill (Editorial Cátedra, 2000).

He has been the director of the journal MonTI – Monographs on Translation and Interpretation (https://web.ua.es/monti) and has led the research group GEN(https://gentext.blogs.uv.es) at the Universitat de València, which provides discourse analyses of socio-ideological texts in the media, focusing on gender violence and social inequality.
