Biography

Sergio Belles Monserrat holds a degree in Geography and Environment from the University of Valencia. He has completed postgraduate studies specializing in the management of mountain areas (official master’s degree at the University of Lleida) and in the analysis of environmental issues (postgraduate programme at the University of Barcelona).

He holds a PhD from the University of Valencia. His research has focused on an in-depth analysis of demographic dynamics between rural and urban areas in the Valencian region and south-eastern France.

He is currently a substitute lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Valencia. He is also a member of the UDERVAL Research Group (GIUV2015-214), led by Dr Javier Esparcia and affiliated with the Interuniversity Institute of Local Development (IIDL).

He has received funding through competitive calls as a predoctoral researcher (ACIF 2021) and to undertake a research stay at LAGAM, Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier III (CIBEFP/2023).

His research mainly focuses on the study of demographic dynamics and decline processes affecting rural areas in the Valencian region and Spain.
