Biography

I am a bioscience engineer, graduated from the University of Ghent (Master) and Antwerp University (PhD) in Belgium. My main interests are related to the optical monitoring of plant photosynthesis from a proximal sensing approach based on the absorption and emission (fluorescence) spectra. In this regard I have been involved in several preparatory projects related to the upcoming Fluorescence Explorer mission of the European Space Agency, for example on the development of retrieval algorithms of the mission’s photosynthesis products.

Since 2016 I have been working at the Laboratory of Earth Observation (LEO) in Valencia at the fascinating intersection between quantitative (hyperspectral) remote sensing and plant stress detection. My ambition is to quantify through remote sensing how vegetation engineers the light harvesting under different climatic conditions and how this impacts the terrestrial carbon uptake.
