Biography

Yolanda Carrión Marco is a Senior Lecturer in the Department de Prehistòria, Arqueologia I Història Antiga de la Universitat de València (UV). She graduated in Geography and History in 1997, with Extraordinary Award mention. Her research career in the field of Archaeobotany began during her predoctoral stage, within the framework of an FPU scholarship from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science, which she held from 1999 to 2002 in the UV. During this period, she completed several research stays at internationally renowned institutions, including the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Arizona State University (USA) and the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie et Archéometrie de l'Universite de Rennes 1 (CNRS, France). In 2003, she defended her doctoral thesis entitled “Afinidades y diferencias de las secuencias antracológicas en las vertientes mediterránea y atlántica de la península Ibérica” and, between 2003 and 2005, held a Research Support Personnel Training Fellowship awarded by the Conselleria d'Educació of the Generalitat Valenciana. From 2006 to 2008, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratoire d'Anthropologie et Archéometrie of the CNRS at the Université de Rennes 1 (France), where she developed several research lines in Dendrology, Archaeometry applied to biotic heritage, and techniques for the study of waterlogged wood. Between 2008 and 2011, she held a research contract as a doctoral researcher under the JAE-Doc program of the CSIC at the Centro de Investigaciones sobre Desertificación. There, she developed her research line in Environmental History and landscape evolution under human impact, working closely with the fields of Ecology and Soil Science. During 2011–2012, she was appointed Associate Professor (6+6) in the UV. In 2015, she was hired by the Universidad del País Vasco as a researcher in the ERC-2013-CoG-614960 project PALEOPLANT, where she conducted anthracological studies in Northern Africa sites. In 2016, she was awarded a Ramón y Cajal research contract in the UV. In 2021, she joined the Department de Prehistòria, Arqueologia I Història Antiga de la Universitat de València as a Permanent Lecturer, and in 2024 she promoted to Senior Lecturer.
