The karateka from the Universitat de València Insaf Bentama proclaims herself the university world winner after obtaining a gold medal in female kumite -55 kg in the World University Championship Combat Sports held this weekend in Brasilia. Moreover, the student got a silver medal in the discipline of female team kumite, completing an excellent performance.
Bentama, student of the Degree in International Business at the Faculty of Economics at the UV, comes back to Valencia with two medals after a brilliant championship. In the individual final, she won the representative of Iran, Fatemeh Yousefi Dehnavi, rounding off a flawless competition.
The athlete had already proved her great level at the national university championships played in Andalusia. This way, on April in Granada, she obtained the gold medal in female senior kumite too. In that competition, the Universitat de València got a total of three medals, all in the female category, which allowed it to be placed as the third best university of Spain in this discipline.
World championship in Brasilia
From 8 to 13 June, Brasilia turned into the heart of university combat sports by holding the FISU World University Championship, which gathered athletes from universities across the world.
Karate was one of the most highlighted disciplines, including competitions in kata and kumite, both in the male and female category, for athletes born between 2000 and 2005. During the competition days, the participants offered high-level performances, characterised by technical precision, concentration, and competitive spirit.
Counting on representatives from Asia, Europe, and America at the podium, the championship also stood out because of the sportive and cultural exchange among universities, setting karate as a discipline that combines tradition, excellence, and international projection.
