Cinta Gallent-Torres participated InnoLab, exploring the role of universities in advancing responsible and socially beneficial AI in higher education.
Cinta Gallent-Torres participated in the 7th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory Conference (ASEFInnoLab7), held from 24 to 28 August 2026 at the University of Nottingham, which brought together 75 higher education professionals, experts, academics and researchers from across Asia and Europe to examine “The Role of Universities in Advancing AI for Good.”
The conference provided an international forum for discussing the opportunities and challenges associated with the increasing integration of artificial intelligence into higher education. Particular attention was devoted to the role of universities in promoting the responsible, ethical and socially beneficial development and use of AI, as well as to the institutional and pedagogical implications of these technologies.
A central component of ASEFInnoLab7 was the collaborative development and refinement of draft white papers addressing key dimensions of AI and higher education. Participants presented their work, received feedback from peers and international experts, and engaged in discussions aimed at strengthening the evidence base and practical recommendations emerging from the initiative. The programme also included expert sessions, collaborative workshops and opportunities for knowledge exchange and networking across the Asia-Europe higher education community.
The event was co-organised by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the University of Nottingham, with the support of partner organisations including Fudan University, the International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), the International Association of Universities (IAU), the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the ASEM Education Secretariat, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the Asia-Europe for Artificial Intelligence Network.
Hosted across the University of Nottingham’s campuses and facilities, the conference offered participants an immersive environment for collaborative learning and interdisciplinary dialogue. The programme, which opened with a welcome dinner on 24 August and concluded on 28 August, also provided an opportunity to learn about the University of Nottingham’s work on socially responsible and beneficial technologies.
Cinta Gallent-Torre’s participation in ASEFInnoLab7 contributes to the international exchange of knowledge on AI in education and responsible digital transformation, while strengthening connections between research and practice in higher education. The conference also aligns closely with TeLL-ME’s broader interest in the pedagogical, technological and ethical dimensions of emerging technologies and their implications for language education and multilingual learning environments.
