The Valencian Academy of the Language moves forward the beginning of the Year of Sant Vicent Ferrer, as the Writer of the Year 2019, with a cycle of conferences organised alongside the Universitat de València. It will take place in the Centre la Sapiència of the Cultural Centre La Nau on Thursday 27 of September. They are entitled “Jueves de Sant Vicent Ferrer”.

The first of the 11 conferences, programmed by the professors Albert Hauf (AVL) and Francisco Gimeno (UV) as directors of the cycle and members of the Committee of the Year Sant Vicent Ferrer, will be in charge of the professor Joan Francesc Mira i Casterà. He will present the work “Sant Vicent Ferrer: vida i llegenda d’un predicador”. This is such a suggestive title to define the figure of the most important Valencian saint.

The cycle will continue on October (Thursday 25), November (Thursday 22) and December (Thursday 20) with the conferences of the professors of the Universitat de València Rafael Narbona and Amadeo Sierra “Viure la València de sant Vicent Ferrer” and “El convent de Sant Doménec de la València medieval”, respectively. The professor Xavier Renoedo of the Universitat of Girona with the conference “La pràctica homilètica de Vicent Ferrer segons les ars praedicandi” will end the conference.

In 2019, the rest of the cycle will be in charge of important specialists of the life and works of Saint Vicent Ferrer such as Josep A. Aguilar (the Catholic University of Valencia), Josep Antoni Ysern (UNED), Carme Arronis (Universitat d'Alacant), María Luz Mandingorra (Universitat de València), Matouno Rodrigo (Universitat de València), Albert Toldrà (Universitat de València) and Óscar Calvé (Universitat de València).

The rest of the programme

At the same time the Committee of the Year Sant Vicent Ferrer, headed by the academician Honorat Ros, is working in the organisation of a series of events in November, when the commemoration of the saint officially starts.
