Philosophy and Education Sciences filled for celebrating the emotional awarding of diplomas of the 23rd promotion of La Nau Gran

The Universitat de València has celebrated last Wednesday and event for the awarding of diplomas for the 23rd promotion of La Nau Gran (2022-2025), the training programme of the UV for people over 50 years old, which recently has been very distinguished by Valencia City Council in the 42nd Week for Seniors because of their career, The ceremony, which was marked by emotive interventions and by the share satisfaction among students, professors and institutional representatives, has completely filled the Assembly Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences.

A total of 336 students have obtained the required credits for receiving the diplomas of one of the most long-lasting and massive university programmes for older adults. There have been different interventions in this event: Principal Maria Vicenta Mestre, who has closed the ceremony; Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, Ester Alba; the delegate of the Principal for University-Society programmes, María Dolores Pitarch; the godfather of the promotion, professor Juan Vicente García Marsilla, and Consuelo Lluesa Calvo, representing to the totality of the promotion. All the interventions have emphasised the transformative value of the programme's knowledge and commitment towards lifelong learning.

In the words of the Principal: "In a transformation and uncertainty scenario, programmes such as La Nau Gran remind us that knowledge is a freedom tool: those who do research, those who read, who answer, who participate in cultural activities becomes protagonist of public life.  And this is a democratic value that the UV must protect".  Mestre has also expressed his gratitude towards the professors and technical staff, and administration and services staff, key points for the initiative to obtain excellent results.

About La Nau Gran

La Nau Gran is a project from the Office of the Vice-Principal for Culture and Society, managed by the University Culture Service and its main goal is to drive training through life, intergenerational dialogue and cultural and social participation.

The current programme offer consists of 10 different training itineraries and 4 higher learning, as well as a wide monographic courses' offer, which cover most of the branches of knowledge. With the participation of more than 15,000 people over the last 25 years, La Nau Gran is a real university space where every older student shares classroom wit degree students, participates in cultural activities and is part of the social and academic debate.

The ceremony was concluded with a performance of the La Nau Gran Chorus, which performed the university anthem Gaudeamus Igitur.
