On February 19 and 20, ScienceFlows participated in the third follow-up meeting of the Iberifier Plus project, held at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The event brought together the different members of the consortium to share progress, coordinate ongoing work, and present the results achieved across the various work packages of the project.

Ana Serra durant la presentació dels resultatsDuring the meeting, ScienceFlows presented the work carried out within WP5, the work package it leads within the consortium. Ana Serra, representing the research group, presented the main results achieved throughout 2025, highlighting the coordination of three deliverables focused on an in-depth analysis of the Code of Practice of digital platforms such as Google, Instagram, Facebook, Bing, LinkedIn, and YouTube. In addition, the other participating organizations shared the research progress made within their respective work packages.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to visit the facilities of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and, in particular, the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, considered one of the most powerful and versatile computing systems in Europe.

As part of the event, two roundtable discussions were also organized around several of the key topics addressed both by the Iberifier Plus consortium and EDMO.

The first roundtable focused on climate change disinformation and was moderated by Pablo Hernández Escayola (Maldita). Participants included Carolina Fernández Castrillo (UC3M), Marilín Gonzalo (Newtral), Marc Masip (Verificat), and Ana Serra (UV), who discussed current challenges in fact-checking and scientific communication in digital environments.

The second roundtable addressed gender-related issues associated with the use of Large Language Models (LLMs). The session was moderated by Roberto Gelado (CEU) and featured contributions from Joana Gonçalves-Sá (LIP), Carolina Bellver (BSC), Nereida Carrillo (Learn to Check), and Marisa Gómez (Plataforma ONG). From different perspectives, the speakers presented research examining how language models reproduce gender-related patterns and biases.

To conclude the meeting, Iberifier Plus hosted a keynote lecture by distinguished UC3M researcher Lucas Grave, entitled “Fact-checking in the post platform moment: The challenge of dis-integration.”

The next follow-up and final meeting of the project is scheduled for October 2026.
