Student Eva Alberola Bautista wins the national phase of a Statistics competition with her work on loneliness

Student Eva Alberola Bautista, from IES San Vicente Ferrer de València, won first prize in the B Category (3rd and 4th year of ESO) in the national phase of the statistics competition ‘Incubadora de Sondeos y Experimientos’ (Incubator of Probes and Experiments). She won with her work titled ‘‘Soledad” (Loneliness) that investigated why the expressions “estar solo” (to be alone) and “sentirse solo” (to feel alone) are not synonyms. The work was supervised by Daniel Murillo.

The national phase of the competition, held in Zaragoza, reached its 12th edition this year and was organised by the Sociedad de Estadística e Investigación (Society for Statistics and Operations Research).

Eva Alberola Bautista reached the national edition after winning the 'Va de Dades' Valencian Statistics Competition for Data Science. Alberola came first in the category of third and fourth year of ESO and Basic Vocational Training with the work she defended in Zaragoza. Along with Alberola, the two teams that also came first in the other two categories of the competition took part in the national phase:

In category A, first and second year ESO, Diego Espuelas, José García, Victoria Martínez, Elena Parra and Alejandro Picó, led by Rubén Calatayud, from the Colegio Salesianos San José Artesano in Elche, presented the work 'Digitalización en mi centro' (Digitalisation in my school).

In the third category, dedicated to Bachillerato and Intermediate Vocational Training, Claudia Aguado, Lucía Aguado, Carlos Meseguer, Laura Ordoñez and Marta Rico, from IES San Blas, Alicante, supervised by José Aurelio Pina and Lluís Bonet, presented their work: ‘Son sostenibles los envases tetrabrik que encontramos en el mercado? (Are the tetrabrik cartons we find at the market sustainable?)

The Faculty of Mathematics of the Universitat de València hosted the 'Va de Dades' conference where the prizes were awarded in each of the three categories of the regional competition.
