The Universitat de València calls for a dialogue in order to solve Catalonia’s situation and states that violence will never be a politic tool

The Governing Council of the Universitat de València has called this Tuesday (3rd October 2017) for a ‘dialogue, respect and tolerance’ in order to solve Catalonia’s situation, has condemned the use of force and reasserted that ‘violence can never be a politic tool. The General Student Assembly has also published an statement.

The approved text indicates:

‘The Governing Council of the Universitat de València, gathered today in a general meeting and sharing the university community’s feelings, and particularly expressed in the statement of the Mesa de Coordinació of the General Student Assembly (most representative institution of the student body) and endorsed by the main organisations of the student’s representation, want to express:

FIRST: The Universitat de València according to the University Constitution serves to develop the people and the peace. For this reason has always condemned the use of violence, especially when solving conflicts. That is why today, condemns the use of force and reasserts that violence can never be a politic tool, as the Governing Council of the Xarxa Vives d’Universitats has stated.

SECOND: The institutional support with the people injured during the events of last 1st October.

THIRD: The call for responsibility of the institutions, civil society and media and the for a dialogue, respect and tolerance, always from the commitment with the democracy, the rule of law and the basic rights.
