The Universitat de València has again demonstrated its great excellence in the university sports with a highlighted performance in the recent event of Autonomous University Sports Championship.
Table tennis
On 11 February, in the competition of table tennis held in the facilities of the Blasco Ibáñez campus, the student Sergi Gómez proclaimed himself champion in the individual men category, winning the golden medal for the UV.
Fencing
On the other hand, on 6 February, the event CADU of fencing took place at the Benimaclet pavilion, where more than 30 fencers from different universities of the Valencian Community participated in an emotional tournament. During the morning a number of matches took place in the three modalities of fencing: foil, sabre and the épée. It should me noted the sabre assault, known for their high speed and dynamism
As regards for the individual results, in men’s foil, Guillermo Fernández reached the second place, while Alejandro Vilar and Juanjo Povedano won the third. In the category of women’s sabre, the UV stand out with the golden medal won by María Eugenia Hinsch and the bronze by Carla Mateu. In the universities ranking, the fencers of the Universitat de València got a creditable second position, equalising last year’s result. In the team’s competition, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) won the gold, the UV got the silver and the Jaume I University (UJI) completed the podium with the bronze.
These results show the compromise and dedication of the athletes at the Universitat de València, consolidating their position as one of the referent institutions in the autonomous university sport. The UV continues harvesting success and representing with pride their sports and academic values.
