The UV continues to reap success at the Regional University Sports Championship (CADU). The next individual competitions will be in judo, golf and marathon. And next week, in team sports, the UV will face the UPV, in the last matchday of the league which leads to the final.
The CADU of frontenis, organised by the Catholic University of València, took place on 14 February. The matchday was a great success for the UV, which made a clean sweep of medals. The women's pair, formed by Lucia Pilar Deusa and Judith Montero, won gold with a great forcefulness. Rubén Moreno Estremera and Cristian Razvan Stanckuiu also managed to climb to the top of the podium. And the mixed tandem, made up of Isabel Monzonís and Juan Pastor, also managed to beat their rivals and win the gold medal. These three victories brought the Universitat de València to the top of the university rankings, which meant winning the fourth gold in this Frontenis competition that could not have been more successful for the UV.
The CADU of cross-country running, organised by the UJI, was held on Thursday 16 February in Castellón. The UV athletes Nara Elipe and Ainhoa Martin remained in the leading group from the beginning, they held that position throughout the race leaving very good feelings. Nara won silver and Ainhoa bronze, only surpassed by the UA runner. The Universitat de València won the team silver medal in the university ranking, the first place went to the UA and the third place to the UJI.
The individual competitions will continue over the next few weeks. The judo CADU, organised by the Catholic University of València, will be held on Saturday 18 at the Benimaclet Pavilion. On 23 Thursday it will be the turn of golf, organised by the CEU Cardenal Herrera University, the tournament will take place at the Foressos golf club in Picassent. 5th Matchday of the CADU Team League
The 5th and last matchday of the CADU Team League will be played between UV and UPV on 21 Tuesday and 22 Wednesday February. The matches to be played on this day will be decisive to know which teams will play the CADU finals on 8 March, as the 1st and 2nd team in each sport will qualify.
The UV teams have already done their homework in volleyball, rugby, paddle tennis and tennis, as they have already qualified for the finals in both the men's and women's competitions. The same goes for the women's football, men's futsal and women's basketball teams, their participation in the final is assured, but it will depend on their performance in the 5th league matchday on whether they come 1st or 2nd.
In women's futsal, the girls are mathematically out of the final. They lost two matches –against the University of Alacant and Miguel Hernández– and, although they have won the other two CADU matches –against the Catholic University of València and the UJI–, the classification is very tight and the goal difference leaves them out of the final. But they are playing at home and will surely enjoy the game and will do their best to close their competition with a victory.
In men's football, men's basketball and women's handball they will be playing against UPV in the 5th matchday of the league. The boys football team of the UV have it quite complicated, they need to win and, even so, they depend on the results of the other universities. The UV women's handball players have a better outlook; they need a win or a draw to qualify for the final. The match is decisive for the boy’s basketball players, who have to win, if they win the game they qualify for the final. Thus they will go out to the court to give their all against the UPV, and they are also playing at home, so the show is guaranteed!
