The Universitat renders a posthumous tribute to the Geography lecturer Joan Noguera

The principal of the Universitat de València, Maria Vicenta Mestre, will direct the posthumous tribute to the Geography lecturer Joan Noguera. It will be hold on 26 October (18:00), in the assembly hall of the Principal building (av. Blasco Ibáñez 13).

Joan Noguera Tur (Gandia, 1968- 2021), was a tenured university lecturer of the Department of Geography of the Universitat de València and director of the Inter-university Institute for Local Developement (IIDL) between 2012 and 2021. Noguera also helped to consolidate the International Centre of Gandia of the Universitat de València (CIG-UV), of which he was assistant director between 2008 and 2012. In addition, he was secretary of the Department of Geography between 2006 and 2008.

 

In the conference it will be presented a special edition of the magazine Terra that is titled “Local development and territorial dynamics. Tribute to Joan Noguera”. It has been edited by the lecturers Jaime Escribano and Adrià Ferrandis. Together with the principal, will also take part in the conference the lecturer of the Faculty of Geography and History Javier Esparcia, Joan del Alcázar and Adrià Feerandis, as well as the researcher Mar Riera, who will run the meeting. Titled “Joan Noguera, a link between university and society” a round table about him will be held with the interventions of Joan Romero (IIDL-UV), Rosario Donderis (CREAMA) and Joan S. Martí (IIDL-UJI). Javier Esparcia, as director of the Department of Geography and María Dolores Pitarch, as director of the IIDL, will close the event.

 

The academic work of the lecturer Joan Noguera was focused on land management, strategic planning, regional geographies, local development and the planning and management of tourism. His most renowned publications are “Planning and promotion of the local development: studies and documents”, with María Dolores Pitarch and Javier Esparcia; “New development factors”, with Javier Esparcia; and “Local associations for the rural development in Spain”, with Javier Esparcia and Almudena Buciega. All of them have been edited by the Publishing Service of the Universitat de València (PUV).

 

L’IIDL is a centre for research and theoretical and practical specialisation in the field of local development, in its broadest sense. It is formed by researchers of the Universitat Jaume I and of the Universitat de València. They are experts on several topics about sustainable development, the implementation framework of the policies and strategies of the local approach of development.
