Under the heading "Other viewpoints on Human Rights", the Universitat de València and the Valencian government (Generalitat Valenciana) are planning to hold blended conferences on 9, 10 and 11 December to commemorate the anniversary of the Universal Declaration. The conferences, sponsored by the Human Rights Institute, will be opened by the director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero. They will be closed by Sami Naïr, Professor at the University of Paris VIII.
The seminars, which will take place in the graduation hall of the Faculty of Law, are part of the collaboration agreement between the Conselleria de Justicia, Interior y Administración Pública ([Valencian] Department of Justice, the Interior and Public Administration) of the Valencian government and the Universitat de València. According to Professor Consuelo Ramón, director of the Department of International Law, and also of these conferences, "the aim of the agreement is to carry out research, training and spreading works in terms of fundamental rights, mediation and assistance to crime victims, especially those of violence against women, tackled from a legal point of view". In commemoration of the Declaration's anniversary, and with the help of the Valencian government, she adds: "We decided to suggest a wide range of conferences in which some of the contemporary debates of greatest interest would be set out".
The poet and writer Luis García Montero will open the conferences on Wednesday 9 at 5 pm with a speech about the viewpoint of poetry on human rights, in a session accessible via the Internet. The following conferences can be watched online as well: "Human Rights, international treaties and dismissals in times of COVID" by Antonio V. Semper, Professor of Labor Law at the Rey Juan Carlos University and a High Court's magistrate (Thursday 9 at 4 pm); "Human rights, beyond the human", given by Javier de Lucas, Professor of Philosophy of Law at the Universitat de València (Friday 11 at 11 pm); and the closing conference, which will be given by Sami Naïr, Professor of Political Science at the University of Paris VIII, entitled "Human rights policy in times of pandemic".
In addition, reputable experts will intervene in round tables focused on some of the main aspects of human rights, such as labor rights, the role of the companies in guaranteeing human rights, new approaches against discrimination, initiatives in environment and sustainable development or the right to die by undergoing euthanasia.
