The Universitat de València, through its Technical and Maintenance Service, adapts in record time the facilities located in front of the Turia garden to accommodate the students of the Lluís Vives school in Massanassa, severely affected by the DANA, for the rest of the academic year.

The pupils of the Lluís Vives Preschool and Primary School in Massanassa returned to the classroom on Monday 25th November. The classrooms, which as a result of the ruinous state in which the centre was left after the DANA that devastated the district of the Horta Sud, have been moved to the old Primary School Education Faculty of the Universitat de València.

The UV, following a petition from the Valencian Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment, has made available the facilities where it teaches the Master's Degree in Secondary Education to provide a provisional solution for the students in the affected areas and to facilitate, as far as possible, the return to routine of the youngest students.

To do this, the UV has had to implement in less than two weeks a series of actions to adapt a space designed for teaching adults to much smaller users with different needs. A series of actions, carried out in record time, thanks to the work of UV staff, who has worked outside her usual timetable to speed up the return of students to the classroom.

In this sense, the STM of the UV, together with Valnu and Serveo, companies contracted by the university for the management and maintenance of its infrastructures, acted in the cafeteria space, making a new electrical installation so that it could house the dining service offered by the centre and that now, with a location far from the municipality, it seems more essential than ever.

Another area in which the University had to act was security. The facilities of the old Primary School Education Faculty are designed to accommodate an adult audience, and to adapt the space to the new users, windows have been blocked, steps and stairs that could pose risks have been protected, handrails have been adapted, and the courtyard has been revised and adapted so that children can enjoy outdoor activities.

The University has also completed the equipment of the classrooms with audiovisual material so that the centre can continue its teaching activity normally, and has also taken advantage of the interventions to work on the first floor to improve the lighting, painting and environmental comfort conditions in the centre's classrooms.

The cession of this space is added to the other initiatives that the UV is developing in terms of aid, support and recovery of those affected by the DANA, such as the ¨Salvem les Fotos¨ programme, volunteering at ground zero, free legal advice, among others.
