Sportswomen from the Universitat de València lead the medal table of the Autonomous University Sports Championship (CADU), thanks to the outstanding performance during the finals that took place in Castellón. Besides this success, UV men's and mixed teams obtained results as well, since they completed a preeminent global participation, with regional titles and several runners-up.
The final phase of the CADU took place in the sports facility of the Universitat Jaume I and in other municipal headquarters, where 20 teams belonging to eight sports modalities competed.
Women's lead in the medal table
Women's teams from the Universitat de València were decisive to lead the medal table of the CADU. In women's basketball, UV was announced the winner after clearly winning against the University of Alicante (74-41), while women's football achieved a signal victory with 2-7 against the same rival.
The women's lead was also consolidated in volleyball, with a victory of 3-0 against the UA, and in handball, a sport in which the UV achieved the regional title after surpassing the Miguel Hernández University (30-22). In women's rugby 7, the Universitat de València goes back to the top of the classification. The women's team of indoor soccer got to the final and obtained the silver medal, after losing against the UMH (2-4), contributing either way to the outstanding balance of the university medal table.
Men's medal table
In terms of men's modality, the Universitat de València had relevant performances as well. The men's rugby 7 team was announced the regional winner, while the men's basketball team won the silver medal, after playing a very even final against the University of Alicante (25-27). In men's volleyball, UV obtained the runner-up after competing against the Universitat Politècnica de València.
Success in mixed modalities
The performance of the Universitat de València was completed with the achievement of titles in mixed modalities. In mixed tennis, UV won against the Miguel Hernández University (2-1), while in mixed paddle tennis, UV won the championship after winning against the UJI (2-1).
In all, the Universitat de València ended the CADU with 8 gold and 3 silver medals, especially highlighting the lead of our women's teams and the essential role of all athlete students for the achievement of the medal table.
Institutional closure of the championship
The competition concluded with the awards ceremony in the sports hall of the UJI, in an event that recognised the effort made by approximately 4,000 students who participated in the CADU, with more than 35 sports disciplines. With these results, the Universitat de València reaffirms its position as one of the leading universities in terms of Valencian university sports, and the main role of their athletes, with particular relevance to women's teams in the lead of the regional medal table. The winner teams are now preparing for representing UV in the Campeonatos de España Universitarios (CEU).
