The Universitat de València and the Generalitat Valenciana have extended to the four campuses of the UV the initiative that facilitates sharing cars for students and the university staff. Added in the app Tribbu, it allows drivers and passengers with compatible routes and schedules to connect in order to reduce the cost of commuting, emissions and the pressure for parking.
The Universitat de València and the Third Vice-Presidency and Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery have extended to the Blasco Ibáñez, Tarongers and Ontinyent campuses the platform València Comparte Coche (Valencia Shares Car) on the app Tribbu, an initiative that puts in contact drivers and passengers with compatible routes and schedules, so that they que share a car and contribute to a more sustainable commute.
The tool, that has already been operational at the Burjassot-Paterna Campus since March, is now available for the four campuses of the Universitat and offers to more than 50,000 students and members of the staff at the Universitat de València an alternative to commuting by private vehicles. The platform allows the publishing of regular or one-time routes and looks for compatible options based on the origin, destination and schedule of each user.
To use València Comparte Coche, the app Tribbu must be downloaded, then you have to select the option of 'Mi universidad' and search for the Universitat de València. The profile is verified via the institutional email of the UV, so that the user can share their route with other members of the university community. The app also allows the consultation of profile information and the communication prior to the ride through an integrated chat.
Sharing a car can earn you money
Moreover, the initiative includes a monetary incentive for drivers through the Energy Saving Certificate (ESC) System, pushed forward by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. According to the app conditions, drivers can receive €0.04 per kilometre and passenger with the Energy Bonus activated.
Therefore, sharing a car reduces part of the cost related to usual commutes to campus, as well as it contributes to make the most out of the vehicles that are already being used and reduces the number of cars entering the campus.
Less cars, less traffic
València Comparte Coche is an initiative pushed forward by the Generalitat in order to encourage car-sharing and the reduce the number of cars on the streets with just one occupant in Valencia city and its metropolitan area, which records more than 6 million of commutes every day.
The increase of occupancy in cars contributes to reducing the number of commutes in private vehicles, the associated emissions to commute and traffic, as well as it favours a more efficient use of urban space and reduces pressure on the campus parking.
In the situation of the European Mobility Week
The implementation of València Comparte Coche to the four campuses at the Universitat de València is included in the actions of the institution to encourage a more sustainable commute. The initiative coincides with the celebration, from 16 to 22 September, of the European Mobility Week, an important date that the UV uses to promote sustainable commuting habits and raise awareness of the environmental impacts of commuting, in the same line with the objectives of its Mobility Plan.
