963864242José Pérez Ballester is Doctor in Archaeology and tenured professor in the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology of the Universitat de València.
He is currently the co-director of the archaeological excavations in the Roman Theatre in Cartagena (Murcia) and in the Iberian and pre-Iberian settlement of La Solana del Castell in Xàtiva (Valencia). Previously, he has worked in different sites of la Vall del Canyoles and la Vall del Xúquer.
Nowadays, he participates as a researcher in the HAR2012-32488 project “Sardinia and Ibiza: rural occupation in the Punic period” directed by C. Gómez Bellard, with the study of slipware ceramics from Ibiza and Sardinia in the Hellenistic period.
His research focuses on:
“Hellenistic ceramics: typologies, iconography, functionality”
“Roman Republic Archaeology”
“Iberian Archaeology: iconography, territory and settlements”.
He has over 100 publications on this matters, and five of them are books.
He has organised different International Conferences of Maritime Archaeology (1998, 2001, 2006).
Furthermore, he is director of the Postgraduate Diploma “Documentation and Preservation of the Maritime Culture Heritage” and participates in different entities related to the academic training of archaeologists specialised in maritime archaeology.
He is member of several scientific institutions:
Member of the Trust of the National Museum for Maritime Archaeology (ARQVA)
Member of the Scientific Committee Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum Spain, based on the Institute for Historical Studies of the CSIC.
Member of the Scientific Committee for the follow-up on the National Plan for the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage, of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
Member of the Scientific Council of “Iberia Graeca. The Greek archaeological legacy in the Iberian Peninsula” (Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports and Culture Department of the Government of Catalonia).
Member of the Scientific Committee of different specialised journals (Agri Centuriatri, Saitabi, Lucentum, Saguntum, etc.).
