Biography

Francisco González Castilla is tenured university lecturer (accredited as full university professor) of Mercantile Law at the Universitat de València and president of the Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Valencian Community.

He has a licenciatura (former Spanish undergraduate degree) by the Universitat de València (1991). Between 1993 and 1994 he studied Private Law at the Ludwig-Maximilien Universität (Munich, Germany), funded by the DAAD. He also completed research stays and taught post-graduate courses at the Max Planck Institute of Hamburg, and at the Universities of Havana (Cuba), Santa Cruz (Bolivia), and Cuenca (Ecuador).

His professional activity as researcher focused on Commercial Contracting Law (specially on financial market), commercial distribution networks and Competition Law, and Company Law, having published two monographs as the only author and more than fifty articles in journals and collective works, in addition to numerous conferences in congresses and several activities of transfer of research results with private companies and entities.

He also participated in R+D funded projects within the area of Law on companies, cooperatives, banking contracts, distribution networks, etc. (two of them as principal investigator). Nowadays he is member, among others, of a research group about the “Governance of corporate networks” recognised in the Prometeo programme for excellence groups of the Valencian Government 2011.

Regarding his teaching activity, together with his work as professor at the Universitat de València since 1994, he has been professor in courses and master’s degrees in other Spanish and foreign university centres. He is coordinator of the double degree in Law + Business Management and Administration (ADE) and member of the advisory body of Florida Universitaria (centre attached to the Universitat de València). In the area of university management, among other activities, he is member of the Degree Academic Committee of ADE, has been secretary of the Department of Commercial Law, member of the Centre Board of the Faculty of Law since 1993, and member of the Bibliographic Board of the "Gregori Maians" Library of Social Sciences.

Since May 2002 he combines his academic activity with his work as President of the new Commission for the Protection of Competition of the Valencian Community, body in charge of preserving the competitive functioning of the autonomic Valencian markets through the exercise of the functions of resolution, arbitration and promotion (art. 1 Decree 50/2012, of 23 March, of the Council).

Francisco González Castilla has recognised three periods of 6 years on research work and four periods of five years of teaching.
