Work placements

Work placements are essentially a training activity for the students, who are supervised by a tutor at their company or institution, and by an academic tutor of the University of Valencia. Their main objective is to enable students to apply and to help them complement the knowledge they have acquired throughout their academic training, whilst at the same time utilising their acquired skills that have prepared them for the professional world, facilitated their employment and encouraged their entrepreneurial ability.

University of Valencia considers external placements to be an important and necessary learning and preparation methodology for students, as well as a link with society, having, thus, its own regulations for placements. Each university centre has a placement commission aimed, among other goals, at promoting and academically supervise the placements.

There are two types of placements: curricular and extracurricular. The curricular ones are academic activities integrated into a curriculum (undergraduate and postgraduate degrees), corresponding to a module, subject or course. On the other hand, extracurricular placements are those which students may undertake on a voluntary basis during their training period (undergraduate and postgraduate degrees) and which are not part of the curriculum, although these have the same aims as curricular placements.

For work placements with children and in compliance with the Spanish law on modification of the child and adolescent protection system (Ley 26/2015, de 28 de julio), students who must, or wish, to carry out work placements involving regular contact with children must provide a negative certificate from the Central Register of Sex Offenders issued by the Spanish Ministry of Justice.

External Placements are regulated by the University of Valencia's External Placements Regulations.
