Valencian aerodromes of the Civil War. Exhibition opening

During the Spanish Civil War, aviation was one of the most important factors to tip the balance towards one side or the other. Given this situation and the shortfall of existing infrastructures, a series of aerodromes was built over the entire Spanish geography. The Valencian territory would not be an exception and during the war, there were up to 38 airfields installed to supply the fronts and defend the enemy attacks. The present exhibition, the organization of the Valencian department of Housing, Public Works and Plannig, through the Demetrio Ribes Chair, presents these aerodromes and their elements – command and guard post, shelters, tinderboxes...- as a network for the defense of the territory, in addition to pace them in their historical context through bombing and aerial warfare, aircraft and aviators, industrial production, cartography, culture, art and the memory that surrounds them.
