Democratic Memory and Heritage 1936-1939. Know, disseminate and value

The Office of the Vice-principal for Territorial Projection and Society of the Universitat de València and Caja Popular present the exhibition Memoria Democrática y Patrimonio. 1936-1939. Conocer, difundir y poner en valor. The exhibition collects historical, oral memory and military information of the Valencian territory resulting from the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) in 17 exhibitors.

80 years after the beginning of the Spanish Civil War and the shift of the capital of the Second Republic to Valencia, the Valencian democratic memory lives a new heated phase. New initiatives try to answer the social demand for knowing the history and the cultural heritage of our recent past. The itinerant exhibition takes place in this context. It aims to value the Valencian heritage that was generated during the Civil War and contributed to respect the cultural wealth. This heritage offers resources based on social and cultural values that should be used for obtaining knowledge and benefiting the whole society.

Although most of the war took place far away from Valencia, the war had a strong impact that has remained until our days and has become common heritage. The exhibition is organised by Jorge Ramos Tolosa, Javier Esteve Martí and Enrique Bengochea Tirado. It intends that more people know this heritage.

The Universitat de València, which is a state Valencian university committed with its environment, has organised a new itinerant exhibition to disseminate the singular and varied cultural heritage of our recent past.
