Drawing science has been a widely used tool in history. It was essential, for instance, to register all the unknown species and understand their anatomy and behaviour. They were part of botanical expeditions, travel guides and representations of all kind. The list of people who have scientific illustration for science purposes is very long. However, they all share the responsibility of trying to summarise and represent scientific information rigorously and clearly.

The working habits of each professional are different, like their approach to scientific disciplines. This is why, within the framework of the event Ilustrando la ciencia 7 that will take place in our Garden and the opening of the exhibition Illustraciència 6 in Estufa Freda, there will be panel of discussion titled Dibujar la ciencia. Mesa redonda sobre ilustración científica. An appointment that is open to the general public in which professionals of scientific illustration and science will speak about their projects and experiences to reflect on the current situation of the sector, the opportunities and the challenges.

The panel of discussion will count on the participation of Hugo Salais, Esperanza Jiménez, Joaquín Baixeras, Clara Cerviño and the moderator Miquel Baidal. It has been organised by Illustraciència and the Botanical Garden of the Universitat de València.
