The Centre de Documentació d’Art Valencià Contemporani "Romà de la Calle" (Documentation Centre of Valencian Contemporary Art) of the University of Valencia, the Consortium of Museums of the Valencian Community and Romeu have organised the exhibition "Roomart. Espai XXI".

The Roomart 2012-13 scientific proposal that we present is designed according to the research dynamics based, first, on the productive and creative aspects that shape the world of graphic arts and, second, on the extrapolation of any of these items to the world of new Valencian contemporary art. In this sense, if paper was once the unifying element of the poetic diversity of the twelve artists selected, this new edition of Roomart would revolve around the notion of space as the fundamental structuring element of the compositional processes involved in the ordering of any artistic discipline.

Understood in this way, the idea of space is particularly contained in the primary relationship with the necessary organisation behind all layout design, fundamental aspect of the editorial design principles linked to the graphic arts. In the layout, with the convergence of typographic, colour, stylistic and technical aspects, space determines beforehand the formal distribution of all composition. There lies its relevance with regard to the hierarchy of the parts of a whole and, outside the secondary content of these parts, to the rationalist, constructive and geometric nature that defines the strict combinatorial process in a master page. Space exists in its aesthetic dimension before undertaking any juxtaposition of contents. This field of research in the space itself, in its abstract purity and difficulties, is precisely that which we consider as the main contribution shown by the twelve young artists who are part of the exhibition Roomart 2012-13. Espai XXI.
