Cycle of Conferences Claustre Obert
"Claustre Obert"
International Spanish and selection of varieties in the media.
Conference by: Raúl Ávila, researcher at The College of Mexico and coordinator of the international project Dissemination of the Spanish language through the media.
Presented and moderated by: Ángel López, full university professor of Linguistics at the University of Valencia. Carolina Moreno, director of the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences of the University of Valencia.
There are 400 million Spanish speakers in the world, but not all are native speakers nor do they use the same linguistic variety. For this potential to develop without tension and without violating the autonomy of each person, it would be necessary to find a international standard accepted by all. So far there are three proposals that differ in the details and sometimes in the foundations. The Royal Spanish Academy, that of international Spanish (based on the media) and the neutral Spanish (based on the practice of dubbing). The conference will examine this issue, of particular interest to journalists and bilingual communities.
Raúl Ávila is a teacher and researcher at The College of Mexico and a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. Among his professional lines it is worth highlighting the international project Dissemination of the Spanish language through the media, where he is coordinator. He has also published in press and online: The Spanish Language and Mass Media (2006) and International Spanish Lexical Variation, among many other publications.
