Open registration for the III Conference on “Light pollution”

In present-day society, mostly urban, culture of light prevails as an exponent of cultural development and economic potential. Nowadays, the energetic efficiency of the lighting system is still prioritised over the negative effects that light causes on the living beings at night, including humans. These negative effects are consequence of the light pollution, an environmental pollution produced by the direct or indirect light emissions into the atmosphere. This pollution comes from artificial sources with excessive intensity, wrong orientation, spectral ranges (colours) and inappropriate timing. At this juncture, the III Conference on light pollution, this year titled “CONTAMINACIÓN LUMÍNICA: AMENAZA DEL SIGLO XXI” (Light pollution: XXI century threat), addressed to the general public, students, technicians, experts, academics and decision-makers in order to make known the issues and the possible solutions to minimise the effects of light pollution. Both sessions are organized around the respective thematic panels, in which experts from different universities and research centres in the fields of astronomy, engineering or health will contribute with their points of view. After the interventions, there is the intention of opening a debate with the participation of all the assistants. An attendance certificate will be delivered.
