Permanent workshops for Performing Arts

The Universitat de València offers Performing Arts training through theatre and dance workshops that count for 2 credits (ECTS) each.

 

These workshops aim to go beyond typical training, preparing a theatre audience with university-level criteria for creativity and the freedom of expression.

PERMANENT THEATRE WORKSHOP –  LEVEL 1

This workshop includes a basic introduction to performing arts with an individual and group project on basic concepts, such as imagination, active listening, body-space awareness and the spoken word. It will end with stage production – of the ASSAIG-Grup de Teatre of the Universitat de València – which will premiere in the Matilde Salvador Hall of La Nau Cultural Centre at the end of the course.

Workshop length: 108 hours

Dates: 1 October to 10 April

Sessions: Tuesdays, 4-8pm

Location: Classroom 33 of the building of the Former Teacher Training School (Alcalde Reig 8, València)

Instructor: Workshop led by the actor, director and playwright Iria Márquez. Márques was trained in theatre in Madrid and has worked as an actress for more than 20 years in theatre, cinema, TV and radio between Madrid and Valencia. She has written about a dozen pieces, as well as co-writing a children’s theatre script. She has directed 20 productions.

PERMANENT THEATRE WORKSHOP –  LEVEL 2

In this second year of theatre training, the students will focus on the relationship between actors and the written word through the study of a specific period in the history of theatre and its scenic possibilities.

Workshop length: 108 hours

Dates: 7 October to 15 April

Sessions: Mondays, 4-8pm

Location: Classroom 33 of the building of the Former Teacher Training School (Alcalde Reig 8, València)

Instructor: Since 2021, this workshop has been led by the artist and playwright Jorge Picó, trained in Paris and founder of the Theatre Ring. Picó has worked on stages in Paris, Catalonia, Mexico, Madrid, New Zealand, Bogota and Buenos Aires. He has won several awards (Alejandro Casona Award, Max...) as well as his works (Gijón, Titeremucia, GVA).

PERMANENT DANCE WORKSHOP –  LEVEL 1

This is a workshop on artistic expression through contemporary dance and will focus on the practice of different body movement techniques and the development of concepts, such as the body, space and time awareness, movement quality and physical distress. Students will study choreography preparation and there will be a final scenic test and other activities including a final show prepared during the course.

Workshop length: 108 hours

Dates: 1 October to 30 April

Sessions: Tuesdays and Fridays, 4-8pm

Location: Classroom 21 of the Assembly Hall of the Former Teacher Training School (Alcalde Reig 8, València)

Instructor: The workshop will be led by the renowned dancer Christine Cloux. Cloux has more than 40 years of experience and has been awarded the Performing Arts Award of the Generalitat Valenciana several times as both a dancer and as a choreographer. This year she received the Max award for Performing Arts.
