Documental Gurumbé
Screening of the documentary “Gurumbé: canciones de tu memoria negra"

Activity encompassed in Las noches en el Jardín of the 36th Summer University of Gandia: “Rights around the world”.

After the screening of the documentary, there will be a discussion with the filmmaker Miguel Ángel Rosales.

The documentary recovers the history of African slavery in the Iberian Peninsula and highlights the impact that, alongside other marginal groups, had in history and culture.

Due to the commercial exploitation of America, thousands of Africans were brought to Spain and Portugal to be sold as slaves. Some were exported to the colonies and others stayed in the cities. The latter will create a group of people that will earn their space in the society bit by bit, fighting since the beginning their slave condition and strong racial prejudices.
