Silenced and forgotten. Artist women in Contemporary Spain

Course encompassed in the 36th Summer University of Gandia

Overview:

This course is organised with the objective of contributing to make artist women more visible in Spain. In order to do so, it is required to question the hegemonic accounts of the History of Art by another one more in line with the reality. In this sense, the process lived by women artists of different disciplines (painting, sculpture, photography…) will be analysed to figure out what women were active artists, their professional artistic training, their professional profile, their channels of exhibition, the critics’ opinion of their works, the artistic languages they employed and how they were developed and finally the position they took in artistic culture. Coordinators: Rafael Gil Salinas ((professor of the Department of History of Art of the Universitat de València), and Ester Alba Pagan (professor of the Department of History of Art of the Universitat de València)
