Francisco Fernández Buey was a Spanish communist philosopher and essayist. His first philosophical articles were about Heidegger and humanism and the analysis of the work of the Italian philosopher Galvano della Volpe. The most relevant part of Fernández Buey's work is devoted to moral, social and political philosophy, and the history of ideas, especially the history of socialist thought. Fernández Buey defended the philosophy of praxis, a worldly and secular philosophy, attentive to the socio-political and cultural problems of the contemporary world, a Marxism of subjectivity, open and warm, of humanistic roots, paying particular attention to the problems, desires and hopes of the people below, to utopias and the basic demands of the people and communities whose voices have been silenced throughout history. In his books, essays and articles he has tried to relate the socio-scientific inspiration of classic Marxism with the philosophy of otherness that is derived from other traditions of liberation, promoting the dialogic approach.
