Vandana Shiva
Universitat d'Estiu de Gandia. Inaugural conference

Vandana Shiva will give the opening lecture of the 37th UEG, which has as its theme "Shifting the Course to Sustainability: SDG under Debate". Shiva is a reference in ecofeminism. Her work seeks to place women and ecology at the centre of modern development.

In this conference, the Indian philosopher and writer will talk about how new infectious diseases, such as the Coronavirus, are emerging due to the destruction of forests and biodiversity.

Vandana Shiva will discuss how the loss of biodiversity in soils, on farms and in the gut is leading to a pandemic of chronic diseases. The combination of these factors is increasing the risks of Coronavirus and undermining SDG 3 (Ensure healthy living and promote well-being for all people of all ages).

It will also show how biodiversity is linked or connected to all the SDGs, and how women's experience and education on biodiversity can help achieve all the goals, especially SDG 1, 2 and 3 which are about ending poverty, zero hunger and health and well-being.
